Login Screen Challenge Part 3
Jumping back into the login screen with initial color and layout. Taking our initial mood board as inspiration as well as the screen ui kit from Adobe, I built out two mobile screens for our mini golf sign up. The first screen allows for sign up with Apple, Facebook, or Email. The second screen takes you to sign up with email. Let’s dig a little deeper.
What’s the first color that comes to mind when you think of golf, or mini golf? I tend to think of green. I instantly thought, “That’s way too obvious.” Wanting to stray away from hitting the user in the face with too much green, the background color chosen was a light sand color. This neutral color is easy on the eye’s as well as evoking the idea of sand traps in golf. This background color also sets the stage for bright call to action button colors and colorful illustrations.
From there painting some of the main buttons bright orange helped make them really pop on screen. It wasn’t looking very golf like yet. Wanting to experiment with a main text color other than black, A darker blue green instantly changed the feel of the entire design while bringing it closer to a mini golf feel. Also by not having a pure black for the text made it easier on the eyes for users. After looking at the dark blue green next to the orange, it became apparent the orange was a bit too aggressive for general button use. Swapping that out with a bright teal color helped make the entire design more inviting. I still believe the orange color will be viable down the road.
The current color palette now evokes a certain golf elegance. A few tweaks to the font and a few illustrative elements may help bring it closer to the world of mini golf fun and excitement. More on this soon.
